THE FORUM OFFICIALLY ENDED AUGUST 11, 2000

Welcome to the Driver Distraction Internet Forum sponsored by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This virtual forum officially ended August 11, 2000 – The site now serves as an information repository, providing the capability for you to browse the site contents (papers, comments, expert opinions, poll results) as well as search the site and access links to other related sites. This forum offered a platform to discuss issues and initiatives related to the safety impact of driver distraction when using in-vehicle devices that receive, transmit, or display various types of information. The goal was to provide opportunities for researchers, designers, and the public, both in the U.S. and internationally, to become informed and involved in these issues so that the benefits of these systems can be realized without causing unsafe driver distraction.

Opportunities still exist, outside of this forum, to submit written comments to NHTSA on issues related to distraction. This can be done by submitting comments to Docket No. NHTSA-99-6270 at the following address:

Docket Management Facility
U.S. Department of Transportation
Room PL-401
400 Seventh Street, S.W.
Washington, DC 20590

Docket hours for hand delivery are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Comments can be sent by fax to 202-493-2251 or by electronic submission. The electronic submission procedure is described in the Docket Management section of NHTSA’s Web site (www.regulations.gov ).
