Used with a hands-free device, a cellphone is no more inherently dangerous, probably less so, than daydreaming, tuning or singing along with the radio, carrying on a conversation, dealing with the kids, checking the map, grooming or eating while driving. The organizers of this forum are correct to frame the issue in terms of driver distraction. How often do you see the driver in the car ahead continually looking at the passenger with whom he or she is carrying on a conversation? How can you seriously maintain that a cell phone user is more dangerous?
